Welcome to my Web Site!

My name is Paul Rice. I am retired and live in Augusta, Georgia. This site presents a collection of buttons handed down to me from my Grandmother. I have undertaken the effort to document and preserve the collection and to become a knowledgeable collector.

Purpose: My principal objectives for this site are (1) to provide the means for family, friends, and others interested in buttons to see the collection; (2) document my efforts to mount, categorize, and preserve the collection; (3) to use the Button Gallery images as an inventory/library as I study the literature and internet inputs to become more knowledgeable.

Background - My grandmother was an avid collector of many items in the early to mid 1900s, buttons being her favorite. After my grandmother passed away in the 1950s, my mother who was not a collector, had a strong desire to display her mother’s button collection. In 1965, I created 12 frames of buttons from the collection that you see to the right. After my mother passed away in 2005 at age 97, the button collection came to me. In late 2006, after observing deterioration and damage due to 50 years of improper storage, I decided to preserve the collection. My initial involvement grew to my current desire to become a knowledgeable collector.

Goals - My three goals are (1) to become knowledgeable in the basics of button collecting so that I can identify, inventory, clean and display the button collection; (2) to develop and document the collection so that those in my family who follow me will become interested and engaged; and (3) to introduce new people to button collecting and assist them as other more experienced collectors have assisted me.

Thank you for visiting and thanks in advance for your suggestions and feedback!

Check out the site.

The "Background" link to the left will lead you to additional information on the wonderful lady who assembled the collection shown here.

The "Button Gallery" link will take you to images for the 12 frames on the right and the additional frames I have mounted since September 2006. Most of the button gallery images have sub-images for a closer look.

The "Q&A Gallery" link leads to a page where I can post button images about which I have questions.

The "Feedback" link is self explanatory. However, my email address below works just as well.
