Request for Input: I am making progress in material ID. Specifically, I think I am getting most of the glass, metal, fabric, wood and shell by observation and celluloid, rubber and horn with the hot needle odor. I am still having trouble with the other materials. From my work the past 6 days, I have set the following buttons aside as probable bakelite. The hot needle test gives off little or no smoke, does not penetrate except for a spot, and I cannot detect an odor. I would appreciate any feedback on those buttons below that are likely "not" bakelite and some advice on how to get at a better answer. Button # 9 is translucent with silver paint on the back. All, without holes, have metal shanks except 12 which is a self shank. Thanks!
